Seychelles, officially the Republic of Seychelles, is an archipelago country of about 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean.
It is well known as a tropical paradise country, with deep blue waters, sandy beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves.The portuguese Vasco da Gama was the first European to record the islands on his explorations in the 15th century. The islands were a point for trade between Africa and Asia and also used by pirates. Later the French and British settled on the island. And the country became independent from UK only in 1976.
The country, once based on agriculture, transitioned succesfully to a services based economy with tourism the most important sector. Lately the government is promoting the development of fishing, farming, manufacturing and offshore sector.
And all together, the low population, tourism sector, fishing industry and offshore financial industry has rosed the country to be the richest country in Africa.
In 2015 the World Bank elevated the status quo of Seychelles to top earning country this is due to its position as the highest nominal per capita GDP in Africa and also ranks as one of the countries in Africa with highest human development index.
